N was looking for a dark place to shine the View Master projector. It was mid-day and sunny, so I told him to go in the pantry and shut the door.
N: "There's no room."
Mommy: "Yes, there is. It's the only place dark enough."
N: "But there's not enough room for M."
Mommy: "Yes, there is. There's plenty of room."
N: "No, there's no room for me and M."
Mommy: "Yes, there is."
This continued on for at least 5 minutes. Finally, N believed me.
N: "There's enough room in the pantry?"
Mommy: "Yes."
N: "Okay."
Happy that he finally believed me, I turned back to my computer to continue working. I looked up to find him standing in front of the refrigerator, with the door wide open, his projector inside, trying to climb in.
Just a slight misunderstanding.
He was thrilled when I pointed to the walk-in pantry and told him that was the pantry and told him he was actually trying to climb in the fridge.
When telling this story to Cr, he pointed out that N was demonstrating "faith like a child". N must have thought I was crazy, but I'm his Mom and he was willing to trust me fully and try to fit in the fridge. Very sweet, but very humbling as well. Do I trust my Heavenly Father that much? I'd like to think so, but makes me wonder, just the same.
